LiveClick Firefox Extension adds functionality to Live Bookmarks
The introduction of Firefox's Live Bookmarks signified a change in the way we subscribe to feeds. Justifiably a lot of extensions have been built to enhance and improve the way they work. LiveClick is just another addition.
Or is it? LiveClick adds a small range of features to your Live Bookmarks that no-one else seems to offer. First up is the favicon integration. This feature does what the name suggests; it substitutes the default Firefox feed symbol for the site's own favicon. Each feed now comes complete with a small logo picture. It's useful for browsing your feeds and reduces eye strain. You can also set LiveClick to monitor each feed for you and alert you to new content.
Also included is a range of options that are bundled into the Bookmarks menus. When you click the drop-down menu for each feed, be it in your Bookmarks or on the toolbar, LiveClick adds several links to the top of the menu. The first is a link to the actual homepage of the site feed. That's the site not the feed page. It's useful for when you fancy visiting the page once in a while. Also included are a link to the feed and the option to mark the feed as 'Read'. The 'Read' option is configurable to a degree and can help you remember where you've been previously but I've had difficulty getting it to work on occasion.
All in all LiveClick is a likeable if limited extension. It adds a few useful features but doesn't improve much on the original formula. The favicon integration is the only real selling point.
Good points
Favicon integration; easy access to site page
Bad points
Marking items as read is unreliable; not many extra features
Rating
3 stars
